Moussa Baradji sees Yverdon as key step in career advancement
Moussa Baradji, the 24-year-old Franco-Malian midfielder, has joined Swiss club Yverdon Sport, marking a significant move in his career. Arriving from Italian side Legnago Salus SSD, Baradji views this opportunity as a crucial step forward. In an exclusive interview with Africafoot, he discussed his aspirations with Yverdon and his hopes of representing Mali at the international level.
You have recently signed with Yverdon Sport, a team in Switzerland’s top flight. How did this opportunity come about?
The process was quite organic. The club showed interest in my profile, and I found their project very appealing for my professional growth.
What prompted your decision to join Yverdon?
The main motivation was the chance to elevate my career. Playing in a top national league presents a significant opportunity to progress and compete at a higher level.
Were there any other European clubs interested in you before Yverdon?
Yes, there were other offers, but nothing as concrete as the opportunity with Yverdon Sport.
What are your goals with Yverdon Sport?
My primary goal is to help the team secure its place in the Super League as quickly as possible. Personally, I aim to play frequently, deliver strong performances, and end the season with impressive statistics.
Can you share some details about your football journey?
I began my football career at ALJ Limay, my local club, at the age of 8. After moving to FC Mantois at 12, I progressed through their ranks and made my debut in the National 2 group. My career then took me to Italy, where I played in Serie D for three years before moving to Serie C for a year. Now, I’m thrilled to have joined Yverdon Sport in Switzerland.
What can you tell us about your playing style?
I play as a box-to-box midfielder, wearing the number 8 jersey. I’m known for my technical skills and aggressive approach on the field. I enjoy having possession of the ball, seeking out opportunities, and pushing forward to contribute to the attack.
As a French national of Malian descent, do you have ambitions to represent Mali?
Currently, I haven’t had any contact regarding representing Mali, but it would be a tremendous honor to do so. My parents and I would be incredibly proud. I understand that I need to continue working hard to make this a reality.
What do you know about Mali, your ancestral country?
I have heard a lot about Mali, but I have yet to visit. Born in France, I am eager to explore and experience Mali firsthand to understand its rich culture better.
Are you considering the possibility of playing for the Mali national team?
It’s definitely a consideration for the future. I followed the recent Africa Cup of Nations closely and admired the team’s performance. I see a lot of potential alignment with Mali’s style of play, but first, I need to continue proving myself on the field.
