Gambian international right winger Kajally Drammeh has rejoined Cape Town City FC after spending the 2023/24 season on loan with Modern Sport FC in Egypt.
A source close to Drammeh’s management revealed that Modern Sport FC opted not to exercise the purchase clause included in the loan agreement with Cape Town City FC.
During his loan spell, the 20-year-old Gambian featured in 23 matches, netting one goal and providing one assist.
Drammeh joined Modern Sport, formerly known as Future FC, in September 2023 for a loan fee of €250,000.
Despite his efforts, his time in Egypt did not lead to a permanent move.
His return to Cape Town City FC is timely, given his contract with the South African club runs until the summer of 2026.
Before the 2023/24 season, Drammeh was linked with a move to Al Masry.
However, the transfer fell through after Drammeh refused to undergo testing in Marrakech, Morocco, where Al Masry was conducting its pre-season training.
The winger subsequently left the Egyptian club’s residence, further complicating the potential transfer.
Cape Town City FC will likely benefit from Drammeh’s return.
The club is looking to bolster its squad for the upcoming season, and having a player of Drammeh’s calibre and experience back in the fold will be a significant advantage.
His performance at Modern Sport FC, while modest, showcased his resilience and adaptability in a foreign league.
Drammeh’s return marks a critical juncture in his career. At just 20 years old, he has already experienced playing in different leagues, which will undoubtedly add to his development and maturity as a player.
Cape Town City FC’s management will be keen to integrate him back into the squad, hoping he can contribute to their ambitions in the South African league.
Drammeh’s reintegration into Cape Town City FC is expected to enhance the team’s offensive options.
His speed, technical skills, and experience gained in Egypt will be invaluable assets.
The club, which aims to compete at the highest level domestically, will look to leverage Drammeh’s abilities to achieve its objectives.
Kajally Drammeh’s return to Cape Town City FC from his loan spell at Modern Sport FC adds a dynamic element to the South African club’s roster.
As he settles back into his primary club, both the player and the team will be focused on achieving success in the upcoming season.
Drammeh’s journey reflects the challenges and opportunities faced by young footballers as they navigate their professional careers across different leagues and countries.
