CAF confirms Zamalek’s participation in next African league amid speculation
Speaking exclusively to “Al-Watan Sport,” the source stated, “Based on the current rankings, both Al Ahly and Zamalek will participate in the next edition of the African League without any doubt.
However, the final decision regarding the rankings, whether CAF will rely on the current or next year’s rankings, will be determined in upcoming CAF meetings.”
CAF had earlier confirmed through the official page of the African League the intention to host the tournament in the near future, stating, “We are working on the next edition of the African Super League.”
Al Ahly Leads CAF Rankings Currently, Al Ahly leads the CAF rankings, securing its participation naturally. Following closely are Tunisian side Esperance, then Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca, Sundowns, Zamalek, and Simba SC from Tanzania.
CAF has yet to unveil the format for the upcoming African League season. However, according to reports, the tournament may expand to include 24 clubs, divided into three groups based on geographical location, with each group comprising a maximum of three clubs from the same country.
The inaugural African League featured just eight clubs: Al Ahly, Sundowns, Wydad Casablanca, Esperance Tunis, Simba SC, Petro Atletico, TP Mazembe, and Enyimba. Sundowns emerged victorious in the maiden edition, triumphing over Wydad.
As anticipation builds for the next African League season, fans and teams alike await further details from CAF regarding the tournament’s structure and schedule, poised to showcase Africa’s footballing prowess on a continental stage once more
