A source from Wydad AC confirmed that club president Said Naciri reached out to Mokwena last week, offering him the position of head coach. Mokwena requested time to consider the offer, but his recent exit from Sundowns significantly boosts the likelihood of Wydad securing his services.
“We have a meeting scheduled with the president this evening to discuss the matter further and assess the progress in hiring a new coach,” the source added.
Mokwena is widely regarded as one of the top coaches in African football, having led Sundowns to numerous South African and continental titles.
His tactical acumen and leadership skills have earned him high praise and a strong reputation across the continent.
Local reports have also suggested that the Royal Army Club (FAR Rabat) is interested in Mokwena, eyeing him as a potential replacement for Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi.
However, Wydad AC seems to be in a favorable position to secure the South African’s signature.
