Mali’s football squad for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been finalized, with the three over-age players officially revealed. These experienced athletes will join the team as they compete in the Olympic football tournament from July 24 to August 9.

Abdou Salam Ag Jiddou Among the Select

Midfielder Abdou Salam Ag Jiddou, aged 24 and currently playing for Entente Sportive Sétifienne, is one of the chosen over-age players.

His inclusion in the Olympic Eagles squad was the first to be disclosed, highlighting his significance in the team’s strategy for the upcoming competition.

Veteran Goalkeeper Aly Yirango Adds Experience

According to Africa Foot United, goalkeeper Aly Yirango is another over-age player selected for the squad.

The 30-year-old has been playing for UF Mâcon in National 3, France’s fifth tier, since January, and has made 13 appearances this season.

Yirango’s extensive experience includes 53 matches in the lower divisions of French football and a solitary appearance in the CAF Champions League.

Although he has not been called up to the national team since November 2020, his past contributions to Mali’s U17 and U20 teams, as well as his involvement in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations where Mali finished fourth, underscore his value.

Demba Diallo Brings International Experience

The third over-age player is winger Demba Diallo, who has been with Manisa FK in Turkey since his transfer from Stade Malien in 2021.

Diallo, who turns 24 in October, has been capped three times by the senior national team, with his last appearance coming in March 2021.

His professional career includes 100 matches, with 92 appearances in Turkey’s 1. Lig. Diallo’s experience and skill on the wings will be crucial for Mali’s Olympic campaign.

Tough Group Stage Awaits

Mali’s Olympic team is set to face a challenging group stage. They will kick off their campaign against Israel on July 24 at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

Their second match will be against Japan in Bordeaux on July 27, followed by their final group stage match against Paraguay three days later.

Focus on Redemption and Glory

As Mali prepares for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the inclusion of these three over-age players aims to bolster the team’s chances of advancing far in the tournament.

Abdou Salam Ag Jiddou, Aly Yirango, and Demba Diallo bring a blend of youth and experience that could prove pivotal in navigating the pressures of international competition.

Their contributions will be closely watched as Mali seeks to make a significant impact on the Olympic stage.
