Khama Billiat netted his first goal of the 2024/25 Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League campaign as Scottland FC held Yadah FC to a 1-1 draw at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.
The 34-year-old forward, who previously starred for Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, found the back of the net against the very club he lit up last season.
His equalising strike ensured that newly promoted Scottland FC continued their impressive start to life in the top flight, moving up to second on the table with 11 points from six matches—just two points behind reigning champions Ngezi Platinum Stars.
Billiat’s return to form comes after a frustrating start to the campaign, having missed Scottland’s season opener against Triangle United due to injury.
His delayed debut had left fans wondering whether the former Zimbabwe international could replicate the standout performances that made him one of the most influential players in the league last term.
During the 2023/24 season, Billiat was the driving force at Yadah FC, notching 13 goals and 11 assists in 26 appearances.
That form not only made him the league’s highest-paid player but also earned him a recall to the national team.
His contribution proved instrumental in Zimbabwe’s successful qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the accolades and popularity he enjoyed at Yadah, Billiat opted for a new challenge ahead of the current season, sealing a move to Scottland FC in January.
The switch reunited him with team captain Walter Musona, the younger brother of former national team skipper Knowledge Musona.
Since joining Scottland, Billiat has been steadily integrating into the squad, and his output is already showing signs of promise.
In addition to Saturday’s goal, he has registered an assist, underlining his continued influence in the final third. With Scottland FC proving to be early surprise contenders, his leadership and experience could be crucial as the season unfolds.
Yadah, meanwhile, will feel disappointed not to have taken all three points against their former talisman.
The Harare-based side had looked on course for victory before Billiat’s well-timed intervention levelled the scores.
Though no longer a regular for Zimbabwe, Billiat’s role at club level remains significant. His creativity, vision, and eye for goal provide a vital edge for a Scottland side that is rapidly growing in stature in the PSL.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on whether Billiat can maintain consistency and avoid further fitness setbacks. If he does, Scottland’s ambitious push for silverware may prove more than just a dream.
With six games already played and the team sitting within touching distance of the summit, the veteran forward’s impact could prove decisive in shaping the title race.
