Zimbabwe will one day lift the AFCON trophy, says FA Chief Nqobile Magwizi
Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile Magwizi has expressed optimism that the country can one day lift the Africa Cup of Nations trophy, while acknowledging the continued support of African football leadership in strengthening the game locally.
Speaking on the long-term ambitions of Zimbabwean football, Magwizi struck an encouraging tone, insisting that success on the continental stage remains a realistic goal if development efforts are sustained.
“Hopefully, one day, Zimbabwe will lift the AFCON trophy,” he said, outlining the national aspiration to compete at the highest level in African football.
He also extended appreciation to Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe, commending his ongoing commitment to supporting football development initiatives across the continent, including in Zimbabwe.
Magwizi’s comments come amid renewed efforts to rebuild and strengthen Zimbabwe’s football structures, with a focus on long-term planning, investment in youth development, and improved competitiveness on the international stage.
The Africa Cup of Nations Africa Cup of Nations remains the ultimate prize for many nations on the continent, and Zimbabwe’s leadership has now publicly framed it as a realistic dream rather than a distant hope.
The next edition of the AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
