Head coach of ZED SC, Adel Mostafa, has backed Al Ahly as the frontrunner to win the Egyptian Premier League title this season.
Speaking in a radio interview on Thursday, Mostafa said: “Al Ahly remains the closest to clinching the Premier League title, especially given the current points gap between them and Pyramids FC.”
He highlighted the motivation within the Al Ahly camp, crediting the renewed spirit under the leadership of their recently appointed technical staff.
“The team has regained momentum thanks to the arrival of head coach Emad El Nahhas and sporting director Mohamed Youssef. Their presence has sparked new energy among the players,” he said.
Mostafa also praised the competitive nature of this season’s league, calling it one of the best editions Egyptian football has seen in recent years.
“It’s a tightly contested race, making the league more exciting and enjoyable for fans and players alike.”
Turning to individual talents, Mostafa commended Moroccan forward Achraf Bencharki, calling him “a top-quality player and a strong addition to any squad.”
“He’s previously starred for clubs like Zamalek and Wydad and has the ability to score at crucial moments,” he added.
As for Al Ahly’s new Spanish coach, Jose Rivero, Mostafa was cautiously optimistic.
“Rivero did well with Orlando City, but it’s still early to judge him at Al Ahly. What the club needs is a coach who plays attacking football with passion and ambition. A good manager must also have the ability to lead effectively.”
In closing, Mostafa noted that many successful Al Ahly coaches had modest reputations before joining the club.
“Take Manuel Jose for example—he didn’t have a stellar résumé before coming to Al Ahly, but he went on to achieve great success. Sometimes, it’s about potential and leadership more than past accolades.”
