ZED open Egypt Capital Cup with emphatic win over Zamalek

ZED began their Egypt Capital Cup campaign with a 3-0 victory over Zamalek at Arab Contractors Stadium, moving to the top of Group A after the opening round.

Marwan Hagag opened the scoring in the 40th minute with an impressive finish, giving ZED a one-goal lead at half-time.

Ahmed Atef then settled the contest shortly after the restart, scoring twice in two minutes. His first goal came in the 53rd minute, before he added a third for ZED in the 55th minute.

The result leaves ZED on three points at the summit of the group. Zamalek, Wadi Degla, Al Ittihad Alexandria and Tala’ea El Gaish make up the rest of Group A.

Al Ittihad Alexandria will face Wadi Degla on Thursday in the other first-round fixture in the group. Tala’ea El Gaish do not have a match in the opening round.

Zamalek line-up

Zamalek were led by Ibrahim Salah, who took charge in place of Moatamad Gamal. Gamal is currently with the team at a training camp preparing for the derby against Al Ahly.

Salah was sent off during the match after protesting.

Zamalek’s starting line-up was: Mahmoud El Shenawy, Ezzat Mohamed, Ahmed Hossam, Khaled El Sayed, Mohamed Farag, El Sayed Osama, Ziad Medhat, Hossam Ashour El Teki, Ahmed Safwat, Seif Gaafar and Adham Haseeb.

Zamalek’s next match is against Al Ahly on Sunday in the sixth round of the league.

ZED started with Mohamed Sayed Mazika, Mohamed Rabie, Abdullah Bakry, Moussa Mohamed, Sameh Ibrahim, Hamdy Alaa, Mahmoud Okka, Abdelrahman El Banouby, Mostafa Saad, Ahmed Atef and Marwan Hagag.

ZED’s three goals ensured they made an immediate impact in the competition, while Zamalek were unable to find a response during the second half.
