Zed has successfully negotiated with Pharco to secure the services of Abdullah Bakri, with the deal expected to be finalized shortly.
The 29-year-old Bakri’s contract with Pharco is set to expire in June 2025, having joined them at the beginning of the 2021-22 season.
Bakri, who has featured in nine matches this season, contributing with one assist, is a sought-after talent to strengthen Zed’s defensive lineup.
Abdullah Bakri’s football journey began in Saudi Arabia, where he started with Al Wasat Club until the age of 15.
He then moved to Tala’ea Al Jaish for a year in the youth ranks before joining Wadi Degla for a transfer fee of EGP 40,000, spending three years with the club.
His first professional experience came with the Qatari side Al Jaish for a year before returning to Egypt.
He played for Telecom Egypt in the second division and later for Helwan in the third division before making a move to NBE Club for EGP 50,000 in January 2017.
After three months, he transferred to Smouha.
In 2018, Bakri was loaned to Al Batin Club in Saudi Arabia, and a month later, he moved to Pyramids, sparking a controversy between Smouha and NBE Club due to sponsorship agreements.
After three seasons with Pyramids, Bakri announced his departure and joined the newly-promoted Pharco to the Egyptian Premier League, scoring the club’s inaugural goal in the top flight.
Bakri had previously claimed to have signed with Al Ahly twice, but the deals fell through.
Smouha rejected offers from Al Ahly and Zamalek due to financial demands.
During a match against Pyramids last season, Bakri replaced the expelled goalkeeper, Mohamed Shika, and conceded a late goal by Islam Issa.
While Bakri had represented Egypt at the youth level under coach Mohamed Omar, he is eligible to play for the Saudi Arabian national team as he was born in the Kingdom and has not represented Egypt at the senior level.
In the footballing realm, Bakri draws inspiration locally from Ibrahim Said and globally from Sergio Ramos.
