Zambian defender Frankie Musonda, recovering from an ankle injury sustained at Ayr United in Scotland, expresses his enthusiasm about Zambia’s prospects in the formidable Group F of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The group comprises football powerhouses Morocco, DR Congo, and Tanzania, making it one of the most challenging in the tournament.
Musonda, delighted to be back in the squad, believes in the potential of the Zambian team to excel in the upcoming competition.
Speaking from the training camp in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, he emphasizes the importance of recovery and tactical preparation with the manager, the tactical team, and the technical staff.
“I’m really excited. We travel very far, so first of all, I just want to recover and also work tactically with the manager, the tactical team, and the technical staff, so it should be a good preparation before the tournament in Ivory Coast,” Musonda commented, as reported by CAF Online.
Currently undergoing a preparation camp in Jeddah, the former champions plan to conclude their training with a friendly match against Cameroon before heading to Ivory Coast on Monday, January 11.
Assessing the competitiveness of Group F, Musonda acknowledges the strength of all qualifying teams, asserting that every match will be challenging.
Despite facing tough opponents, including DR Congo in their opening match on January 17 at the Stade Laurent Pokou in San Pedro, Musonda remains optimistic, stating, “We believe we can win every game, so I’m very excited, and we just have to focus.”
As Zambia gears up for the AFCON campaign, Musonda’s positive outlook and determination underscore the team’s commitment to navigating a challenging group and making their mark in the prestigious tournament.
