Zambian FA threatens ex-referees' boss with disciplinary action over corrupt referees allegation

The Football Association of Zambia has warned former referees committee chairperson Gladys Lengwe Mweemba that she could face disciplinary action after raising allegations of widespread corruption among match officials.

In a letter dated March 12, FAZ confirmed it had accepted Mweemba’s resignation from her role as chairperson of the FAZ Referees Committee. The association thanked her for her “time, effort and commitment” to the development and administration of refereeing in Zambian football.

However, the governing body expressed concern about claims of rampant corruption among referees which Mweemba reportedly cited in her resignation correspondence.

FAZ stressed that matters of integrity are taken seriously but warned that allegations of corruption must be raised through the association’s established internal channels.

According to the letter signed by acting deputy general secretary Iva Mumba Lengwe, making such claims publicly without proper procedures could damage the reputation of the game.

The association cautioned that raising unsubstantiated allegations in the public domain may expose Mweemba to proceedings before FAZ’s judicial bodies under the disciplinary codes of FAZ, Confederation of African Football and FIFA.

Despite the warning, FAZ reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of football and encouraged stakeholders to report credible concerns through the appropriate channels
