It’s unfortunate to hear that Stoppila Sunzu, the Chipolopolo defender from Tout-Puissant Mazembe, has undergone knee surgery after suffering since the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). The surgery took place last Friday, and it’s reported to have been successful. However, the player will need to spend the next four weeks resting under the care of Dr. Joseph Kabungo, the doctor of the Zambian national team.
This has been a challenging year for Sunzu, marked by failed transfers to Arsenal, Sunderland, and Reading last winter. The recovery period and rehabilitation following the surgery may cause him to miss the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in June. Zambia is scheduled to face Lesotho and Sudan on the 8th and 15th of next month, and Sunzu’s absence could be a setback for the team. We wish him a speedy recovery.
