Zambia women’s national team star Barbra Banda has made a move from Chinese side Shanghai Shengli to Orlando Pride in the United States for a fee of $740,000 in a four-year deal.
This makes Banda the second most expensive female footballer ever after her compatriot Rachel Kundananji.
The fee is the second highest in world soccer history behind Zambian teammate Kundananji, whose move to NWSL expansion team Bay FC set the global record last month.
Banda rose to prominence with her sublime performance when she scored back-to-back hat-tricks against the Netherlands and China in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old is the only player to score two hat-tricks in an Olympic tournament.
The highly talented footballer also participated in last year’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Banda featured for the Copper Queens as she scored twice against Ghana in the Women’s Olympic Games qualifier for her country to progress to the next stage where they face Morocco in the final eliminator.
The Copper Queens captain signed a four-year contract that could earn her up to $2.1m as she makes a move to Orlando Pride in the USA.
