Officials of Zamalek have decided to abandon the signing of Mahmoud Al-Aswad, the Syrian national team winger from Al-Karamah Club, during the ongoing winter transfer window.
According to information obtained by “Al-Masry Al-Youm,” Zamalek has opted to step back from the deal with Mahmoud Al-Aswad based on a recommendation from the new head coach, the Portuguese Jose Gomez.
Gomez, the Zamalek head coach, rejected the acquisition of Mahmoud Al-Aswad, citing the team’s lack of need for his services, given the presence of multiple players in the attacking midfield position.
The White Knights were on the verge of finalizing the deal with the Syrian national team star before officially retracting from the agreement, following Gomez’s request.
Zamalek has made 10 signings to bolster the football team during the winter transfer window after the lifting of the club’s registration ban.
The acquisitions include Abdullah El-Said, Saif Farouk Jafar, Mahab Yasser, Nasser Maher, Mohamed Atef, Mohamed Shawky, the Palestinian defender Yasser Hamad, the Ugandan winger Travis Mutyaba (under the age of 23), Ziyad Kamal, and Ahmed Hamdi.
