Zamalek star Ahmed Mustafa Zizo finds himself at the center of growing tension as his lawyer revealed a failed attempt to secure the player’s safety at the club.
While talks with rivals Al Ahly continue, Zizo faces an investigation from Zamalek for publicly criticizing the club.
His lawyer, Ashraf Abdel Aziz, shared that he had contacted Zamalek president Hussein Labib in an effort to guarantee Zizo’s protection, as outlined under FIFA rules. But the response he received was anything but reassuring.
“Over the past few days, I communicated with Hussein Labib in a friendly manner to discuss the Zizo crisis and obtain guarantees of protection and safety for the player within the club, according to FIFA regulations,” Abdel Aziz said.
“Labib’s response was a surprise to me, as he said, ‘I’m not the club’s security director, I’m the chairman of the board of directors.'”
Zizo has refused to appear for a scheduled hearing, citing a lack of official notice and outstanding wages totaling 73 million pounds.
