Zamalek is actively considering extending the contract of Tunisian defender Hamza Mathlouthi, whose current deal expires at the end of the season.
The club’s management is evaluating the possibility of a renewal as a show of support for Mathlouthi, who underwent successful knee surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament earlier this month.
Sources within Zamalek revealed to Kawoura that club president Hussein Labib is particularly keen on keeping the experienced defender, believing the club should stand by him during his recovery.
The final decision on the renewal will involve discussions between the board, the Planning Committee, and head coach José Peseiro, with a proposed two-year extension under consideration.
Meanwhile, Zamalek is focused on their Egypt Cup quarter-final clash against Smouha, set for Saturday at Cairo International Stadium.
Mathlouthi’s journey has seen him rise from CA Bizertin to CS Sfaxien before joining Zamalek in 2020. Under Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira, he transitioned into a central defensive role, becoming a key figure in the club’s backline.
