The fiery rivalry between Zamalek and Al-Ahly has taken a new twist off the pitch. Zamalek SC has lodged a formal grievance with the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, calling out the host of Sada El Balad TV’s “Malab El Balad” program.
The complaint stems from Saturday’s episode, which the club claims took cheap shots at Zamalek and its leadership.
This follows Al-Ahly’s own protest against the same show for sarcastically tackling rumored transfer talks involving Zamalek’s star Ahmed Zizo.
In their statement on Monday, Zamalek didn’t hold back, accusing the program of “mockery and disparagement of Zamalek SC and its officials.” They urged the council to step in and enforce media standards, saying, “which are inconsistent with the media codes in place by the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, which aim to create a healthy environment that contributes to the advancement of sports media in a manner that serves the public interest.”
Adding to the club’s woes, Zamalek fell 2-1 to Petrojet in Sunday’s Egyptian Capital Cup match, leaving them languishing with one point in Group A, while Petrojet surged to nine.
