Zamalek remains unwavering in its commitment to playing the highly anticipated summit clash against Al Ahly as scheduled, despite mounting pressure for a postponement.
Al Ahly officially announced its insistence on delaying the match, scheduled for Tuesday evening in the first round of the Egyptian League’s coronation stage. The club even threatened to withdraw from the competition if its demand was not met.
The controversy stems from a dispute over refereeing appointments. Al Ahly has called for a foreign officiating crew, while the Egyptian Football Association named Mahmoud Bassiouni to take charge of the encounter.
Ahmed Hossam “Mido,” a member of Zamalek’s Planning Committee, reinforced the club’s position through a statement on his personal “X” account: “Zamalek is committed to the location and date of the match that we were notified by the Club Association… Our team will be on the field, and our preparations are naturally continuing to take the meeting tonight at Cairo Stadium at nine thirty in the evening.”
Zamalek spokesperson Ahmed Salem also affirmed on Facebook that the team is prepared to head to Cairo Stadium, standing by the official fixture schedule.
