Zamalek SC have been informed by FIFA that their compensation case involving Gabonese striker Aaron Boupendza will not move forward.
The Egyptian club had been seeking €2.5 million after the player reportedly backed out of a signed agreement to join them, instead opting for a move to Romanian side Rapid Bucharest.
The club’s board member, Amr Adham, shared that football’s governing body reached out officially to notify them that the case would not be processed following Boupendza’s tragic passing. The 28-year-old striker died after falling from the 11th floor of a building in Hangzhou, China.
Police investigations concluded the incident was not suspicious, with surveillance footage confirming no foul play.
Zamalek had hoped for financial compensation for what they believed was a breach of agreement. However, FIFA’s decision puts an end to the matter entirely due to the player’s death.
“FIFA informed us yesterday that Boupendza has passed away, and therefore the case we had filed will not be completed and will not be considered,” Adham said in a television interview.
