Zamalek SC has formally objected to the Egyptian Professional Football Clubs Association’s decision to reduce the sanctions imposed on Al Ahly following their failure to fulfill a fixture in the Egyptian Premier League play-offs.
Al Ahly had been penalized for missing a scheduled match against Zamalek SC, with the initial punishment including a 3-0 forfeit loss, a financial fine, and a three-point deduction at the end of the 2024-25 season.
However, after further review, the Association of Professional Clubs opted to ease the sanctions, revoking the points deduction while maintaining the other penalties.
Zamalek’s strong opposition
The decision to soften Al Ahly’s punishment has sparked discontent at Zamalek, with the club releasing an official statement challenging the ruling.
The White Knights argue that the initial sanctions were justified and should not be altered.
Zamalek’s management has formally lodged a complaint with the league authorities, urging them to reconsider their stance.
It remains uncertain whether the governing body will reverse its decision in response to Zamalek’s protest.
Upcoming fixtures amid controversy
The controversy unfolds as the play-off stage intensifies, with both clubs preparing for crucial upcoming matches.
Al Ahly is set to face Pyramids FC in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter.
While the league’s governing body maintains that its revised ruling is final, the fallout from the decision continues to stir debate, with Zamalek determined to push for a reassessment.
