Zamalek sacks Yannick Ferreira and appoints Abdel Raouf before Super Cup
Zamalek’s board, led by Hussein Labib, has parted ways with Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira after a period of disappointing results and inconsistent performances.
The decision comes just days before the team competes in the local Super Cup in the UAE. Ahmed Abdel Raouf, a former player and current staff member, has been named head coach and will select his own coaching team for this crucial stage, aiming to restore stability and harmony to the squad.
While the sacking drew mixed reactions from fans, the numbers told the story. Ferreira recorded the weakest results among the club’s recent foreign managers, with only a 57.6% win rate and dropping 14 points in 11 league matches.
His tenure, though longer than his predecessors, failed to deliver attacking identity or consistent success, causing the club to fall behind in the title race. “The statistics spoke for themselves,” noted a board statement.
In contrast, Christian Gross and Jose Peseiro, Zamalek’s previous managers, boasted better records, Gross particularly excelling in both results and tactical discipline. As a new chapter begins, hopes rise that Abdel Raouf can revive Zamalek’s fortunes and rally the team before the big cup clash.
