Zamalek reject Famalicao loan offer for Egypt youth goalkeeper Omar Abdel Aziz

Zamalek have rejected a proposal from Portuguese club Famalicao to sign their young goalkeeper Omar Tarek Abdel Aziz, according to the player’s agent Wael El-Kharbtawy.

El-Kharbtawy told FilGoal.com that Zamalek informed Famalicao they needed the goalkeeper’s services with the first team during the current season.

“Zamalek rejected an offer from Portuguese club Famalicao to sign Omar Tarek Abdel Aziz, the team’s young goalkeeper, and told them that the first team needs his services during this season,” El-Kharbtawy said.

The proposal would have seen Abdel Aziz join Famalicao on a free season-long loan. It also included an option for the Portuguese club to buy 80% of the player’s rights for €100,000.

Famalicao would then have had the opportunity to purchase a further 15% for €50,000, meaning the club could eventually acquire 95% of Abdel Aziz’s rights for a total of €150,000.

El-Kharbtawy outlined the structure of the offer while explaining why the move had not been approved by Zamalek.

“The offer was a free loan for one season, with an option to buy 80% of the player’s rights for €100,000, followed by the possibility of buying another 15% for €50,000. That means Famalicao could acquire a 95% share for €150,000,” he said.

Abdel Aziz is the first-choice goalkeeper for Egypt’s youth national team. He also represented Egypt’s youth side at the most recent World Cup held in Qatar.

The goalkeeper has impressed with his performances for Egypt’s youth teams, strengthening his position as one of the young players being monitored by Zamalek.

His current contract with the Cairo club runs until the 2029-30 season. That long-term agreement remains in place after Zamalek decided not to accept Famalicao’s proposal.

Abdel Aziz has also been promoted to Zamalek’s first-team squad, alongside goalkeepers Al Mahdi Soliman, Mohamed Awad and Mohamed Sobhi.

The decision to retain him means he will remain part of Zamalek’s first-team group for the current campaign, rather than moving to Portugal under the terms proposed by Famalicao.

The offer would not have involved an immediate permanent transfer, but instead a season-long loan followed by staged options to purchase shares in the player’s rights. Zamalek declined those terms after judging that Abdel Aziz was required by the senior squad.

The goalkeeper’s development at both club and international level has continued during a period in which he has featured prominently for Egypt’s youth sides. He was Egypt’s goalkeeper at the last youth World Cup in Qatar and remains under contract at Zamalek through 2029-30.
