Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal has opted to give his players a day off from training following their 1-0 defeat to Enppi in yesterday’s Egyptian Premier League clash.

The loss, which came in the final round of the league’s first stage, highlighted areas where the team needs to regroup and recover, both mentally and physically, ahead of a crucial stretch of fixtures.

The coaching staff explained that the break is intended to help players recover from the physical toll of a congested schedule, while also allowing them to reflect on their performance and recharge before traveling for continental duties.

“The team has been under considerable pressure over the past weeks, with both domestic and African competitions demanding high intensity,” a source from the club noted. “This short rest is essential to maintain peak performance for upcoming challenges.”

Zamalek’s delegation is set to depart for the Republic of Congo tonight at 10 PM, preparing for their first-leg quarter-final clash in the African Confederation Cup against Otoho.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, at 3:00 PM Cairo time, and the team is expected to focus on tactical drills and match-readiness upon arrival in Congo.

The defeat to Enppi, who secured seventh place in the league and officially qualified for the champions’ group, means Zamalek will need to reassess its strategy ahead of the draw that will determine the next stage’s fixtures.

The coaching staff is reportedly analyzing the team’s weaknesses from the match, particularly in defense and finishing, to ensure a more cohesive and effective performance in both domestic and continental competitions.

Despite the setback, club officials remain confident that the team can recover quickly, emphasizing that careful management of player workload and focused preparation will be key to achieving success in the African Confederation Cup and the remainder of the Premier League season.
