Zamalek’s board has accelerated its search for a new head coach, opening serious talks with Tarek Mostafa to take over the team in the coming period.
The move comes quickly after Ahmed Abdel Raouf’s resignation, with club officials keen to appoint someone experienced enough to handle the intense pressure surrounding the White Castle right now.
Mostafa, 54, emerged as a leading candidate only hours after Libyan side Ahli Benghazi announced his dismissal, following a poor start to their league campaign with two draws against Al Anwar and Al Hilal. He had only taken charge there in September, but results did not match his ambitions in what turned out to be a short-lived spell.
Despite that setback, Mostafa boasts a rich coaching CV that appeals strongly to Zamalek’s hierarchy. His career includes stints with Fujairah in the UAE and several impactful spells in Morocco with Rapide Oued Zem, Olympique Safi and Difaâ El Jadida, as well as a solid run in Egypt with National Bank of Egypt.
According to Kooora, former Zamalek coach Khaled Galal is on the club’s shortlist, with his name being seriously considered as an alternative option for the hot seat in Mit Okba.
