Zamalek is set to part ways with Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira
Zamalek’s experiment with Belgian coach Yannick Ferreira has come to an end after weeks of mounting fan dissatisfaction and disappointing results.
Insiders revealed that club vice-president Hisham Nasr was pivotal in making the final decision. “It became clear the club needed a new direction,” a source close to the decision told Kooora, underlining Nasr’s direct intervention via a phone call to sporting director John Edward.
Ferreira’s tenure was marked by 14 lost points in just 11 league matches, failing to win any of the last four. The 1-1 draw against National Bank was the final straw, with fans loudly calling for change. Ferreira also courted controversy by skipping the post-match press conference, resulting in a fine for the cash-strapped club.
Zamalek’s management quickly scheduled a meeting to seek a friendly separation, aiming to avoid a heavy penalty clause. They also plan to review the roles of some of Ferreira’s key assistants. As the club prepares for a new era, it hopes to recover form in both domestic and continental competitions. “Our focus is on transparency and progress,” the club stated, with an important general assembly set for December.
