Zamalek SC has taken concrete steps to resolve the registration ban currently imposed by FIFA, beginning with settling the outstanding dues owed to former Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaib.
According to a report, Zamalek officials have reached out to Boutaib’s legal representative to inform him of the club’s payment of €983,000 — the remaining amount due to the player based on a previous ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
“Zamalek officials have contacted Khalid Boutaib’s lawyer to inform him of the payment of the financial dues amounting to 983,000 euros,” he said.
“The club asked the lawyer to send a signed release from Boutaib, confirming the payment of all dues and proving Zamalek’s commitment to paying the fine.”
Zamalek is currently banned from registering new players due to two separate cases involving unpaid debts — one to Boutaib, and another to former Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco.
The Swiss Federal Court had earlier rejected Zamalek’s appeal against a decision awarding Pacheco €880,000 following the termination of his contract with the club.
The registration ban was enforced as a result of the club’s failure to settle the €983,000 instalment to Boutaib, which was part of a total €2.5 million CAS-ordered compensation package.
With Boutaib’s case now nearly resolved, the club is expected to turn its attention to finalising the settlement of Pacheco’s dues in a bid to have the registration ban lifted before the upcoming transfer window.
