Zamalek’s goalkeeper Mohamed Awad has been fined following a heated on-field altercation with teammate Hossam Abdelmaguid during their recent Egyptian Premier League match against Al Masry.
The White Knights endured their sixth defeat of the season, succumbing 2-1 to Al Masry on Monday evening.
Fakhreddine Ben Youssef opened the scoring for Al Masry with a goal in the 20th minute. Mohamed El-Shamy then extended the lead with a late goal, leaving Zamalek trailing 2-0.
Despite Youssef Obama’s stoppage-time goal for Zamalek, it was too little too late.
The match was further marred by an internal dispute, as Awad and Abdelmaguid clashed on the pitch, necessitating intervention from teammate Hamza Mathlouthi to separate them.
The altercation prompted swift action from Zamalek’s director of football, Abdelwahed El-Sayed, who imposed a substantial fine on Awad for his role in the incident.
As a result of the disciplinary action, Awad’s salary will be reduced by 25% for misconduct.
However, he will not face suspension, as the team remains dependent on him following an injury to fellow goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi.
Zamalek now looks to bounce back from their recent setbacks as they prepare to host Pharco in the league’s 20th round on Friday, July 21st.
The White Knights aim to regain their form and climb the league table, while also seeking to maintain team cohesion and discipline.
The incident highlights the challenges Zamalek faces both on and off the pitch, as they strive to overcome internal conflicts and improve their standings in the Egyptian Premier League.
