Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek have finally resolved financial dispute with former Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco, paying him €1 million in overdue wages.
The 67-year-old tactician had a brief with the Egyptian outfit, managing the club for just six months. Pacheco, who was appointed in September 2020 was shown the exit door in March 2021.
Pacheco led Zamalek in 26 matches before parting ways with the Portuguese trainer following an unimpressive performance.
Following his sacking, the Portuguese trainer dragged Zamalek to FIFA demanding for his salary arrears. Having failed to settle the arrears, the Egyptian outfit were handed with a transfer ban, limiting the club from registering players.
Information reaching AfricaSoccer.com indicates that, the Egyptian outfit has finally settle the financial dispute with their former coach, marking a critical step toward lifting the club’s transfer ban.
Zamalek had been prohibited from registering new players due to unresolved debts owed to Jaime Pacheco (former head coach) and Khalid Boutaib (former Moroccan striker).
Earlier, Zamalek paid €2.5 million to Boutaib in compliance with a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling, fully settling that case.
Zamalek has now closed all major FIFA cases related to outstanding debts, paving the way to lift the registration freeze ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
The club is trying to rebuild its team after a difficult season and the recent departure of important players, thus this comes at a critical moment.
Meanwhile, Zamalek are expected to formally notify FIFA of the payment of the arrears and submit documents to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to reactivate their ability to sign and register players.
