Zamalek fans unleash anger on Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, target Al Ahly’s Mahmoud El Khatib in stadium outburst
On Wednesday, the Cairo International Stadium was tense when Zamalek fans vented their anger on Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, the White Knights’ best player, during the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final against Stellenbosch of South Africa.
The Zamalek faithful didn’t hold back, their anger spilling over after Zizo was left out of the lineup by technical staff under Jose Peseiro, a decision tied to swirling rumors of the 29-year-old’s potential free transfer to rivals Al Ahly.
The crowd’s chants grew fierce, aimed not just at Zizo and his father but also at Al Ahly chairman Mahmoud El Khatib, who became a lightning rod for their discontent.
Hussein Labib, head of Zamalek’s board, wasn’t spared either, with fans roaring, “They are not up to the task. Go and leave it. When will you wake up, you who ruined it?”
The drama follows Zizo’s bold statement on Tuesday, where he blamed the Zamalek board for the stalled contract talks, insisting he hasn’t inked a deal elsewhere and will wait until his current term ends.
