Zamalek’s dispute with Moroccan defender Mahmoud Bentayg has entered a new and more serious phase, as the club moves to protect its legal and financial position in the ongoing conflict.
A senior source told Kooora that the football administration revealed that tensions have been building since December, when communication between the two sides began to break down.
According to the source, Zamalek initially tried to resolve the situation calmly by opening direct talks with the player’s agent in order to clear up any misunderstandings. However, the agent insisted that his overdue commission from the transfer must be settled first, turning this condition into the main obstacle and pushing the case toward a dead end. The source rejected claims that Zamalek ignored the player, describing such talk as an attempt to distort the club’s image and misrepresent the reality of the dispute.
The club believes its legal position is strong, denying that Bentayg has the right to unilaterally terminate his contract, which remains fully valid and enforceable.
Zamalek has warned that if Bentayg signs for another team without official approval, he could face severe FIFA sanctions, including a lengthy suspension and heavy fines, while the new club could be hit with a transfer ban.
The administration also stressed that the player has received all his financial dues on time, leaving no legal loophole that would allow him to cancel the agreement.
The source added that his absence from training is considered a serious contractual breach that may harm his career, and confirmed that Zamalek will not hesitate to take escalating measures to safeguard the club’s rights and uphold its signed contracts.
