The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has officially upheld Zamalek’s 3-0 victory over Al Ahly in the Egyptian League’s coronation stage after the latter failed to appear at Cairo International Stadium for the highly anticipated match.
A statement from the association confirmed the decision, citing Article 4.17 of the competition regulations. Additionally, Al Ahly has been hit with a three-point deduction and ordered to cover financial losses related to commercial contracts, broadcasting agreements, and other expenditures resulting from their withdrawal, as per Article 8.17.
The ruling comes in response to Al Ahly’s decision to boycott the match in protest against the appointment of an Egyptian refereeing crew instead of a foreign team. Referee Mahmoud Bassiouni waited for the required 20 minutes before officially calling off the game.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly has lodged a complaint with the Egyptian Olympic Committee, arguing that the league’s decision to appoint Egyptian referees violated prior agreements. The association awaits the committee’s final ruling on the matter.
