Zamalek board divided over potential appointment of Pitso Mosimane as head coach

There is division among Zamalek FC board over the potential appointment of Pitso Mosimane as the head coach of the club, AfricaSoccer.com understand.

The South African coach has been strongly linked to the club for the vacant coaching role at the side.

The Egyptian side are in search of a new head coach following the dismissal of former Nigeria coach, Jose Peseiro, due to a poor run of form.

Ayman El Ramady is currently serving as the club’s interim coach, with reports suggesting he will remain in charge until Zamalek’s final game of the season, the Egyptian Cup final against Pyramids FC on 5 June.

Nevertheless, Mosimane is said to be a serious contender to take over from El Ramady, which has reportedly caused a split among the club’s decision-makers.

Reports suggest that some members of the board are in support of the appointment of the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, while others remain unconvinced, pointing to Mosimane’s underwhelming results during his time at Emirati side Al Wahda, Saudi Arabian club Abha FC, and, more recently, Esteghlal FC in Iran.

It is believed that these stints have raised concerns about Mosimane’s suitability to lead Zamalek at this point.

The matter is reportedly still under internal discussion, though the club are said to still have Mosimane high on their list of candidates.
