Zamalek begins legal proceedings over Nabil Emad Donga’s Super Cup suspension

Zamalek SC has announced it will pursue all available legal channels in response to the four-match suspension of its midfielder Nabil Emad Donga for the upcoming Egyptian Super Cup.

The club’s legal advisor, Mohamed Metwally, highlighted contradictions in communication from the Egyptian Football Association and disputed the legitimacy of implementing such a lengthy ban specifically within the Super Cup, which is typically contested in a single match.

Metwally explained that retroactive law enforcement isn’t permissible, and stated that suspensions should apply to the next official local matches, not just exclusively to Super Cup games. Zamalek argues that the restriction unfairly sidelines Donga for four years instead of four matches, given the tournament’s structure.

Despite Zamalek’s efforts for clarification, the FA confirmed Donga’s suspension is based on incidents from last year’s semifinal. Meanwhile, other voices from the FA maintain the decision is correct and will be enforced in the UAE this November.

The legal challenge reflects Zamalek’s determination to support their player and seek reasonable application of disciplinary measures for both club and national competitions.
