Egyptian giants Zamalek have made their coaching decision official with the appointment of Belgian manager Yannick Ferrera as the new head coach.
The club confirmed the deal on Friday, with sporting director John Edward signing a one-season contract with the 44-year-old.
Ferrera, born in Belgium and also holding Spanish citizenship, brings both youth and experience to the White Knights. He made headlines early in his career by becoming the youngest head coach in Belgian top-flight history at just 31 years and 10 months old.
With a total of 348 matches managed across his career, Ferrera boasts a respectable record: 154 wins, 76 draws, and 118 defeats. His teams have scored 515 goals while conceding 471, a stat line Zamalek hopes will translate to better results on the pitch.
The new boss is no stranger to Arab football either. He previously managed Al-Fateh and Al-Riyadh and served on the technical staff at Al-Shabab, all in Saudi Arabia.
Zamalek will be counting on that regional experience to quickly adapt and restore their domestic and continental ambitions.
