Zama Dlamini rejoins Cape Town Spurs as Fani Mthethwa begins Venda role

Experienced goalkeeper Zama Dlamini has returned to Cape Town Spurs as the club continues its ABC Motsepe League campaign.

The 34-year-old is familiar with the Urban Warriors, having previously spent several seasons with the Cape Town-based side. Dlamini first joined Spurs in 2021 and was part of the squad during their time in the professional ranks, making a number of appearances in goal.

His return adds experience to a Spurs team entering a new phase in the ABC Motsepe League. Dlamini has also played for Black Aces, Thanda Royal Zulu, Chippa United, Highlands Park and Baroka, while he was at Mamelodi Sundowns at a stage of his career.

Dlamini’s previous time with Cape Town Spurs means he already knows the club, and his experience across South African football is expected to strengthen the squad as the season progresses.

Mthethwa joins Venda technical team

Former Baroka FC assistant coach Fani Mthethwa has also begun a new chapter after taking up a position with Venda Football Club.

Mthethwa has joined the club as assistant to experienced coach Kaitano Tembo and is understood to have settled well in Limpopo since starting the role. He is now working alongside Tembo as the new Venda technical team attempts to improve the club’s fortunes.

Tembo was appointed after Venda parted ways with Clinton Larsen following a difficult opening to their Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign. The club had taken only one point from its first five matches before the change in the technical department.

Mthethwa’s background, including his previous work with Baroka and other clubs, is expected to prove valuable as he and Tembo seek to rebuild confidence and improve Venda’s position in the Championship.

While Dlamini has returned to a familiar club at Cape Town Spurs, Mthethwa is adapting to a new environment in Limpopo. Both experienced football figures have taken on fresh roles as the domestic season gathers momentum.
