Aliou Cissé, newly appointed as Libya’s head coach, is reportedly set to bring in fellow Senegalese coach Youssoupha Dabo as part of his backroom staff.
Dabo, who is currently in charge of AS Vita Club in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is expected to join the Mediterranean Knights’ setup, according to reports from Dsports.
A Reunion of Senegalese Expertise
Cissé and Dabo have previously worked together, notably during Senegal’s campaigns at the 2017 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Senegal coach, who guided the Teranga Lions to their maiden AFCON title in 2021, appears keen on maintaining a Senegalese connection in his new role as he embarks on the challenge of reviving Libyan football.
Dabo has built a solid coaching reputation in African football, with spells in Tanzania at Azam FC before moving to AS Vita Club in the DRC.
His experience across different leagues on the continent could prove valuable as he prepares for a new challenge in North Africa.
A Rebuilding Task in Libya
Cissé and his staff face a formidable task as Libya failed to qualify for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Their challenge will not only be to improve the senior national team’s fortunes but also to oversee broader structural reforms in Libyan football.
Currently in Tripoli finalizing his coaching team, Cissé is expected to confirm his staff members imminently. Dabo, who remains in the DRC for now, is awaiting the completion of discussions before making the switch.
If all goes as planned, the official announcement of Libya’s new technical staff is anticipated by Thursday.
