Guillaume Hoarau Extends Contract with Young Boys Bern Following Strong Europa League Performance
Guillaume Hoarau, the Reunion Island striker, has extended his stay at Swiss club Young Boys Bern after initially signing a short-term deal over the summer. The former Bordeaux player, who had been without a club since his contract expired last June, joined Young Boys on a four-month contract but has now secured an extension until the end of the season.
The announcement came shortly after Young Boys’ impressive 5-0 win against Slovan Bratislava in the Europa League last Thursday, a match in which Hoarau found the net, reaffirming his value to the team.
Reflecting on his career during an interview with Sport-Première, Hoarau looked back fondly on his five years at Paris Saint-Germain from 2008 to 2013, describing the experience as a “childhood dream.” He spoke candidly about his time at PSG, acknowledging the intense competition for places after the arrival of world-class talents.
“I have no regrets. I spent a lot of time there and experienced every possible emotion. It also allowed me to join the French national team,” Hoarau said. “Afterwards, politics changed and the best arrived. If a striker can say he can compete with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, let him go! I was clear-headed and said, ‘OK, there’s no problem.’”
The 31-year-old striker expressed gratitude for the opportunity PSG gave him to perform at the highest level and hinted at a possible reunion in the future. “Maybe tomorrow, we’ll see each other again one day. In any case, every time I go back, I’m always made to feel welcome because things went well for me there.”
Hoarau’s contract extension reflects his important role at Young Boys and signals the club’s confidence in his continued contribution this season.
