‘You showed heart in everything you did’ – Salah bids heartfelt farewell to Nunez after Liverpool exit to Al-Hilal
Mohamed Salah has paid an emotional tribute to Darwin Nunez following the Uruguayan striker’s departure from Liverpool to Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal.
The Egyptian forward took to X to share his farewell message, praising Nunez’s character and impact both on and off the pitch.
“I feel lucky that you were my teammate and friend,” Salah wrote.
“You were always genuine and brought so much positive energy wherever you went. You made us laugh and showed heart in everything you did. You will be missed, and I wish you all the best at your new club.”
Nunez’s transfer marks the end of a two-year stint at Anfield after arriving from Benfica in 2022 for a then club-record €85 million.
While his spell was marked by mixed form at times, the 25-year-old left an impression with his tireless work rate, physical presence, and ability to deliver in big moments.
Over his Liverpool career, Nunez made 143 appearances, scoring 40 goals and providing 26 assists.
Despite interest from several European clubs, Nunez opted for a move to Al-Hilal, joining a growing list of high-profile players making the switch to the Saudi Pro League.
The deal is expected to provide Liverpool with significant funds for their summer rebuild under new management.
