Yaya Touré Named Manchester City’s Player of the Season
Yaya Touré has been voted Manchester City’s Player of the Season for 2013-2014 by the club’s supporters. The Ivorian midfielder was in outstanding form, finishing the campaign as City’s top scorer with 20 goals — a remarkable feat for a player in his position.
Despite City’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield, Touré remained upbeat. “It’s another trophy, but I think it was quite difficult because we didn’t have all the guys who were at the World Cup with us,” he said. “It’s good preparation for the start of the season. The last time we won the Community Shield, we lost the Premier League.”
Looking ahead, Touré is focused on the club’s priorities: “This year, the objective is the Premier League and the Champions League. We’ll have to be in good shape and bounce back against Newcastle — it will be a very important first match.”
At the same ceremony, midfielder Samir Nasri won the club’s Goal of the Season award for his strike in the Carling Cup.
