Yann Aurel Bisseck has spoken candidly about his departure from FC Cologne in July 2022, revealing the challenges he faced during his time at the club and the reasons behind his eventual exit.
The 24-year-old Franco-Cameroonian central defender, who is now enjoying a more settled period at Inter Milan, reflects on the difficulties that led to his move away from his training club.
After a series of loan spells, Bisseck made the permanent switch to Aarhus GF in Denmark, before ultimately securing a move to Inter Milan in July 2023.
In an interview with Sportbild, the defender shared his frustration with his situation at Cologne and the lack of opportunities to establish himself in the first team.
I came into the team when things were going badly,” Bisseck explained.
Then there was a change of coach, Stefan Ruthenbeck, who initially focused on the more experienced players.
That’s normal in a fight to avoid relegation, but then something went wrong.
The managers decided to go another way and I had to accept that.
Despite understanding the situation at the time, Bisseck admitted to feeling let down by the lack of support from the club’s leadership.
He noted that, during this period, there were talks about a potential move to Holstein Kiel, which he believed could have been a positive opportunity.
It was me who turned to the club. At that time, I would have liked Cologne to fight more for me,” he revealed. “But I don’t hold it against anyone, and I only wish the best.
Everything is fine like that.
Bisseck’s departure from Cologne marked the end of a turbulent period for him at the club.
His time there was marked by multiple loan spells and a lack of consistent playing time.
After a difficult few years, he made the permanent move to Aarhus, before catching the eye of Inter Milan.
Since joining the Italian giants, Bisseck has seen more stability and success in his career.
This season, the defender has featured in 13 games across all competitions, scoring one goal.
He is under contract with Inter Milan until 2029, with a market value of €25 million according to Transfermarkt.
Inter Milan will face Parma in their upcoming Serie A match, with Bisseck continuing to build his presence at the club.
As his career progresses, the defender has proven that persistence and resilience have paid off, and he now looks forward to more consistent opportunities at the top level.
