Yan Diomande’s impressive start to life at Real Madrid could eventually bring an additional financial reward for RB Leipzig, with the Spanish giants reportedly having agreed to a special Ballon d’Or bonus clause in his transfer contract.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international joined Real Madrid from Leipzig last summer in a deal worth an initial €125 million, with additional bonuses potentially taking the overall package to €140 million.
According to Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the agreement includes a specific clause requiring Real Madrid to pay Leipzig an additional €2.5 million if Diomande wins the Ballon d’Or while representing the Spanish club.
The unusual provision was reportedly negotiated by Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer during lengthy discussions between the two clubs.
Leipzig secured special bonus clause
The reported agreement provides another potential financial reward for Leipzig, who were determined to secure favourable terms before allowing their highly-rated winger to leave.
The Ballon d’Or clause forms part of the additional bonuses included in the transfer agreement and is reportedly valid until 2033, when Diomande’s current Real Madrid contract expires.
Although winning football’s most prestigious individual award remains a significant challenge, Leipzig have ensured they could benefit further from the youngster’s development in Madrid.
Diomande making his mark at Real Madrid
Meanwhile, Diomande is continuing to establish himself at the Santiago Bernabéu after taking advantage of Vinicius Junior’s four-match La Liga suspension.
The Ivorian impressed during Real Madrid’s El Clásico victory over Barcelona before producing another standout performance against Racing Santander, where he scored a spectacular goal in the 3-0 victory.
His performances have attracted praise from several teammates, including Jude Bellingham, who was particularly impressed by his strike against Santander.
“It’s incredible. I didn’t know he could shoot like that. He’s very strong. He had already shown it against Leipzig. He’s a special player and we’re very happy to have him in our squad,” Bellingham said.
Diomande’s growing influence has strengthened his position in José Mourinho’s attacking plans, with competition for places increasing following his recent performances.
