Yagan Sasman joins Marumo Gallants training after Black Leopards relegation

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows defender Yagan Sasman has begun training with Marumo Gallants as he considers his next move.

The 30-year-old centre-back was seen with the Gallants squad on Tuesday at Rosina Sedibane Modiba Sports Grounds, where the club have been preparing for their upcoming fixtures.

Sasman had joined Black Leopards in the Motsepe Foundation Championship earlier this year in an effort to return to regular first-team football. However, Black Leopards’ relegation from the second tier has left the defender among those assessing their options elsewhere for this season.

A source close to the situation confirmed Sasman’s presence at Gallants’ training base, although no agreement has been reached between the player and the club.

“He was there on Tuesday, I spotted him with the team,” the source told the Siya crew.

Sasman came through the youth system at Ajax Cape Town before beginning his professional career. He has since represented a number of clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows and Casric Stars.

His career has also taken him outside South Africa, with the defender having previously played for AFC Eskilstuna in Sweden, among other teams.

Training with Gallants gives Sasman the chance to work under the club’s technical team and demonstrate his current fitness and form. It remains uncertain whether that opportunity will result in a contract.

For now, he is understood to be using the spell at Gallants to weigh up his options after leaving Black Leopards. His future will depend on whether the club decides to take his involvement further.

Gallants are currently rooted to the bottom of the PSL standings under new head coach Ronnie Kanalelo. Sasman’s experience could therefore offer an additional option to a side seeking to improve its fortunes, but his presence at training should not yet be taken as confirmation of a completed move.
