Xavi Edges Closer to Barcelona Exit Amid MLS Interest
Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez may be preparing to leave the Camp Nou for good as early as January, according to reports from Spanish newspaper Sport. The veteran midfielder, who was previously on the verge of a move to a Middle Eastern club during the summer, ultimately decided to remain in Catalonia. However, his limited role under new manager Luis Enrique appears to have reignited his desire for a fresh challenge.
Now 34, Xavi has featured in only three La Liga matches this season, starting just once. His diminished influence on the pitch, after over 15 years of anchoring Barcelona’s midfield, has reportedly convinced him that the time is right to move on.
Sport suggests that Major League Soccer (MLS) is emerging as a strong destination, with clubs such as LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls expressing interest in signing the Spanish icon. A January departure would give Xavi the opportunity to end his glittering European career on his terms, while helping to grow the sport in the U.S.
While Barcelona have yet to confirm any formal negotiations, Xavi’s departure would mark the end of an era for the club. He has won every major title at both club and international level, and remains one of the most influential players in Barcelona’s modern history.
