Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has hinted at the possibility of deploying Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick together more frequently following their impactful display in the team’s 3-2 German Cup victory over FC Cologne.
The match marked the first time this season that the duo featured together, with Schick netting Leverkusen’s second goal in stoppage time before Boniface, introduced in the 76th minute for Exequiel Palacios, secured the win in extra time.
When asked about the potential of maintaining the attacking partnership, Alonso stated: “Yes, it is an option.
We decide according to the needs of each match, and if they can get along well and meet the needs of the team, it is possible.”
Leverkusen will look to build on their momentum as they face Wolfsburg in their upcoming Bundesliga fixture on Sunday.
