Xabi Alonso delighted as Victor Boniface returns to Bayer Leverkusen squad

Bayer Leverkusen’s head coach, Xabi Alonso, expressed his joy at the return of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface after a prolonged absence due to injury. Boniface made his comeback during the German Cup semi-finals clash against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Having been sidelined for three months due to adductor injuries, Boniface’s return to the pitch marked a significant moment for both the player and the club.

Xabi Alonso commended Boniface’s perseverance and dedication during his recovery period, emphasizing the importance of his comeback for the team.

“It was special for him after 3 months of absence. He worked hard to get back on the field. He wanted to enjoy it with the players.

We needed him back,” stated Xabi Alonso in an interview with the club’s official website.

Entering the game in the 66th minute as a substitute for Patrick Schick, Boniface’s return was warmly welcomed by fans and teammates alike.

His presence on the pitch provided a boost to Bayer Leverkusen, who were eager to have their top scorer back in action.

Throughout the season, Victor Boniface has been instrumental for Bayer Leverkusen, tallying an impressive 16 goals and 7 assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

Despite his injury setback, he maintains his position as the club’s leading goal scorer, a testament to his talent and contribution to the team.

With his return, Boniface now has the opportunity to further enhance his goal-scoring record and make a significant impact as Bayer Leverkusen aims to finish the season on a high note.

As the club pursues its objectives in domestic and European competitions, Boniface’s presence on the field will undoubtedly be pivotal in their quest for success.
