Wydad, the Moroccan runner-up of the previous edition of the CAF Champions League, failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the continental tournament this season 2023-2024.

In the final match of the group stage, Wydad faced ASEC Abidjan from Ivory Coast on Saturday evening, securing a victory with a single goal without conceding.

However, despite the win, it wasn’t enough to secure their spot in the quarter-finals, as their competitor, Simba from Tanzania, clinched a decisive 6-0 victory against Jwaneng Galaxy from Botswana in the same round of matches.

Wydad was positioned in Group Two of the CAF Champions League alongside ASEC Abidjan, Simba from Tanzania, and Jwaneng Galaxy from Botswana.

Finishing the group stage, Wydad secured the third position in the group, accumulating 9 points from three wins and three losses.

From Group Two, ASEC Abidjan topped the group with 11 points, followed by Simba from Tanzania with 9 points.

The head-to-head encounters between Wydad and Simba ultimately determined the qualifying team, with Wydad losing to Simba in Tanzania 2-0 but managing to win 1-0 in Morocco.

Group Standings of Wydad in the CAF Champions League:

  1. ASEC Abidjan (Ivory Coast) – 11 points – 6 matches.
  2. Simba (Tanzania) – 9 points – 6 matches.
  3. Wydad (Morocco) – 9 points – 6 matches.
  4. Jwaneng Galaxy (Botswana) – 4 points – 6 matches.
