Wydad Women condemn ‘serious incidents’ after National Championship clash against Laayoune
The women’s team of Wydad Athletic Club has released a strongly worded statement denouncing what it described as troubling events surrounding its recent fixture against Laayoune Municipality Club in the National Women’s Football Championship.
In the statement, the Casablanca-based side expressed firm condemnation of what it called “serious incidents and inappropriate remarks” that allegedly occurred both before kickoff and after the final whistle.
The club maintained that the overall atmosphere of the match fell short of the standards of fair play and professionalism that should define such competitions.
Wydad further revealed that it had previously notified the relevant authorities of concerns regarding the conduct and circumstances of the encounter, warning that certain behaviours could compromise the safety of its players and staff. According to the club, the developments that unfolded after the match only reinforced those fears, particularly regarding what it described as unacceptable actions attributed to some members of the opposing side.
The management of the women’s team reiterated its unwavering support for the players as well as the technical and administrative staff.
It stressed that it would not accept any infringement on the dignity or security of its members and confirmed its intention to pursue all available legal and regulatory avenues with the competent bodies to safeguard its rights and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
Concluding its statement, Wydad underlined its commitment to the principles of respect and fair competition, while calling for improved conditions that guarantee player safety and uphold the image of women’s football nationally, both on and off the pitch.
