Lamine Yamal steps up training ahead of key Newcastle clash
Lamine Yamal has returned to group training with Barcelona at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, offering a timely boost ahead of a crucial Champions League week.
The session came a day after Barcelona’s comfortable win over Sevilla, with the young winger easing back into work alongside his teammates in a controlled recovery session.
According to Sport, Yamal did not train at full intensity but still pushed harder than many of the regular starters, who remained in the gym for lighter work. Having been rested for much of the Sevilla game, he joined a group of substitutes and squad players, including Ronald Araújo, Ferran Torres and Eric García, in a more demanding session. Yamal came off the bench for just over 25 minutes at the weekend and looked sharp, a positive sign of his rhythm and fitness.
Barcelona expects Lamine Yamal to be available for Wednesday’s decisive home leg against Newcastle after the 1-1 draw in the first match. While he may not yet be at absolutely peak condition, his presence gives Hansi Flick an extra attacking weapon as Barcelona chase a place in the next round.
