Wydad defender Guilherme Ferreira set for surgery after serious ACL injury
Wydad AC defender Guilherme Ferreira is set to undergo surgery after suffering a serious knee injury during the club’s Botola Pro D1 Round 19 clash against CODM Meknès.
Medical examinations have confirmed that the Brazilian centre back sustained a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, dealing a major blow to both the player and the Moroccan giants.
The injury is expected to rule Ferreira out for more than six months, effectively ending his season and leaving Wydad without one of their key defensive figures for the remainder of the campaign.
The defender is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days before beginning a lengthy rehabilitation programme aimed at restoring strength and stability to his knee.
Following confirmation of the injury, Ferreira shared an emotional message with supporters on Instagram, thanking fans for their encouragement during the difficult moment.
“Thank you for all the affection and support to the Wydad family. With your support, I will return stronger, God willing,” he wrote.
The Brazilian later posted another message expressing his disappointment over the setback.
“A very sad day. Suffering such a serious injury is not easy. Thank you again for all the affection. I will return stronger, God willing.”
Ferreira initially joined Wydad in June 2025 on a short-term loan from Portuguese side FC Felgueiras before the Casablanca club activated a permanent transfer option worth around €377,000 the following month.
Despite the injury setback, Wydad remain firmly in contention for the Botola Pro title. The Red Castle currently occupy fourth position with 37 points from 20 matches, just two points behind the league leaders following their recent derby victory over Raja Casablanca.
